The all-electric range-extender system is a brand-new vehicle powertrain jointly developed by JCM Auto and industry-leading enterprises. It has achieved a leading position in China, particularly in the commercial vehicle sector, in terms of power performance, energy consumption control, emission standards, service life, and noise optimization.
The range extender is based on batteries and electric motors, integrating the environmental and economic advantages of a multi-fuel internal combustion engine. It is comprehensively innovated and customized to meet the vehicle’s operating conditions. Unlike traditional hybrid or range-extender systems, it represents an advanced integration of conventional hybrid, range-extender, and pure electric technologies, offering a more efficient power solution.
Through extensive static and dynamic calibration, the range extender boasts key advantages such as lightweight design, high power generation efficiency (generator efficiency reaching 97%, overall system efficiency exceeding 93%), low noise in diesel operation, excellent fuel economy, and high reliability. The diesel-powered generator consumes less than 210g/kWh of fuel, reducing fuel consumption by 20%-50% compared to traditional vehicles (depending on the operating environment and vehicle configuration). The system not only supports extended-range electric cruising but also enables external charging while the vehicle is stationary.
Currently, a 50-60kW rated power platform has been successfully developed, covering tourist buses under 8.9 meters, intercity buses under 10.9 meters, as well as trucks and refrigerated vehicles in the 4.5-9 ton range.

Key Features of the All-Electric Range-Extender System
- JCM Definition of the All-Electric Range-Extender System: The system is designed based on pure electric vehicles, meaning that the battery and motor must support the vehicle’s operation under pure electric conditions.
- Efficient Internal Combustion Engine Management: The internal combustion engine operates continuously within the rated speed range, ensuring optimal efficiency, minimal fuel consumption, and low noise levels.
- High Power-Density Generator: A disc-type motor is used as the generator, making it significantly lighter than traditional generators.
- Optimized Control Strategy: The generator and engine utilize a closed-loop control system to ensure stable rated power output.
- Intelligent Energy Management: The range extender is more than just a generator. Jinchi has integrated an energy router that connects the battery, drive motor, and external charging devices. It accurately monitors and distributes energy flow for precise control.
- Deep Vehicle Integration: The system is deeply integrated with the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) to enhance overall powertrain efficiency.
- Modular Design: The range extender adopts a modular design, including power generation, drive, energy storage, safety, power utilization, and low-voltage circuit modules, improving system scalability and adaptability.
